Went for another round of " study camp" yesterday.
Did we study? Of course.
The question: Is how much??

Who cares...we had steamboat yesterday night, to celebrate Mr Ah Beh's birthday, not his actual birthday though.

We had all the balls you can name:
fish ball, meat ball, sotong ball, prawn ball, sausage, cinta mee, and some vege to make up a balance diet!!

Was it delicious? Comparing to restaurant's food, not at all. But considering the condition at that time,I can say it is acceptable!! Only thing is that there is too much food, which results in wastage.. bad bad....

The drinks was the best!! 1 big kettle of orange juice+ one bottle of Calsberge.. Best you gotta try it!

yes nuggets, we had nuggets too. No we didn't 'steamboated' the nuggets, we deep fried it. the kitchen turned messy n super oily. Know I really can understand why my Mum dislike frying, and I learnt it the hard way :( One more thing, i used a induction cooker pot to deep fry the nuggets and melted the plastic handle :( worst still, that's not my pot!!! ARh.... my stubbornness

SO deep frying stuff is a PANTANG!!! unless I'm not the one cleaning :)

After the dinner, we had cake.

Next day, or today, we went to PC fair.... THE END.

Kind of crappy rite?

journey to the south 4 - camping

Yeah going to post about camp... one week after it.

once again, I went back to PJ, for the scouts camp in school.

I took a 730 bus from Penang and reached Pj at 1pm, then I headed to yee en house to hide/sleep/rest, till camp.

Yee en and I were late for the flagbreak, Yee En just came back from his exams and rushed to camp. What a dedicated scouter, went for camp despite having exams, of course with a heavy price to pay for.the recruits

For the first night, just taught them hoe to prepare their logbooks, then we had supper. At 1.30am, we scouters had our meeting, till 2 something. Then Yee En and I went on to make our stretchers , finally, I went to sleep by 3am.
the probationer scouters

Basically, for the first night of camp, I was very happy and delighted to meet up with lots of friends/scouters. What was their comments on me? Seck Houng, you are fatter!! the effect of rotting a home for 3 months.
At the same time, I wasn't in the 'camping mode' yet, maybe it is because I just travelled down form Penang, and not yet get used to the 'new' environment. haha, well, I must admit, I'm slow in adapting to new environment.
the juniors with their pioneering project

supper time

The next day,the very same morning, I woke up at 5.30 and went on patrolling the school with the small kids. For that day I had 2 lectures, 1. isyarat sulit 2. parang dan kapak. How were my lectures? according to their feedback, they were boring....
Ah, I feel so sad.... But did I really prepared the lectures? Did I really follow the movement's motto: be prepared? Well I guess not, but If I would be given a chance to teach in the future, I'll be prepared!!
sleeping juniors

During noon, while the recruits were having their lecture on " fundamentals of scouting" I went for backwoodsman, to cook Yee En's chicken (apparently, his original plan was to cook it during the night). I roasted half of the chicken, and 'mud-ed' the other half. How was the chicken? Looks quite nice, and tasted like a chicken. Well I didn't marinate the chicken with anything, so it was tasteless.

Can you spot the other chicken?

the mud chicken, notice the other part of the chicken was exposed to the fire( failure or sabotaged?) and got BBQ. Hence I would say that this is a all new 2in1 BBQ+ steam chicken...

This camp Malam Kebudayaan, it quite an interesting one, I really enjoyed it. Especially the seniors sketches, Night walk etc.... Overall I think this year scouts performances really got standard! For the night walk, it really brings back memories. When was the last time you played night walk?

Then OBH, supper, and open talk. haha sorry Yee En, miss communication. It was supposed to be a open talk with the recruits, but it ended up to be a open talk among scouters. 3am, sleep.

Woke up late for the last day of camp. Helped Guo Qiang to pass his tenderfoot. After flag break, went home with a smelly body and a bag fully of stinky shirts. Well not actually home, but Yee En's house.

*******
How was it, being a scouter?
Teaching is no easy task.
Thru this camp, I able to understand and know myself better.
After attending the Mani Kayu course, I learnt some theories on how to be a leader, how to pass down knowledge, but did I really put all the theory into practical? Was I able to do so? Sadly, I forgotten all the theories, and just did it my way or in other word ' hentam sahaja'. It is easy to talk about the theories, but can you practise it? Knowing the theory and putting it into practical are really 2 different things. So I'm A person who can talk to you about methods of teaching scouts for hours, but can't use a single method himself.

We also got quite a number of comments/complains from recruits parents.
******
Finally,I would like to thank my parents for supporting me, financially. Thank you Yee en for offering me accommodation. I start to treat his house like a hotel, check in n check out the hotel quite frequently. If i would rate this 'hotel' it would be a 7 star hotel...haha

Open Talk Speech

Yes, because i don't have an opportunity to give a long long long long speech during the camp open talk, i shall now type out all the feeling thoughts n craps tat was in my head tat day.

" This is the 2nd time i became the camp coordinator, it was much more easier compared to the last time... the camp is nice, very thing went as planned. I am very happy n satisfied with this camp. Last year troop camp was a modern camp, but this year troop camp is a 'fast" camp , especially on the first day. Through this camp i think our standard has increased, i can see the changes in this camp. so maybe the next camp we can try something more challenging something different.

But the are a few things that we can improve on
1. for qm n fqm we need to improve on the estimation of items n food

2. discipline. Low during the camp, maybe i am also slagging during the camp... Hahaha but at least i make it a point to be the 1st to wake up n start hitting the cangkul with the hammer like nobody business till everyone wakes up, the best alarm clock i ever knew.....

3. mentality. maybe some r just form 1 they dont noe wat to do, n just stone there, some complain too tired, hungry .. this n that.... but this is a camp, I used to have a mentally that if u go camp u must be very tired, suffer, u must keep on doing work till u r exhausted , then only u can sleep..... I dont know how n where i get this mentality from, maybe after a few camp in school while i was just a form 1?? But every since than i will keep on working ones i am camping, that explains why u can hear all the " thing thing thang thang " sound during late night. I used to do so without knowing the reason...

But then again is this type of mentality correct?? To me there is no such thing as a 100% correct or wrong mentality in a camp, each camp should have a suitable mentality .e.g. If it is a leisure camp , then you must try to enjoy the camp, n the jungle, if it is a training camp, then don;t stop training yourself in the camp, try to learn as much as possible from the camp.

I was stubborn n didnt really notice about all this.last time, to me work like hell in camp is the best camping method, but form this camp i noticed that we have to pace our self, sometime all you need to do is just sit down n look around you n you will find something different that u always ignore because you r too busy working...

If you thing that the camp is tiring tat means u r working, n you will know tat after going back from this camp u r a stronger person....

That is all for the my speech"

Claps from everyone.......tq tq. everyone should be sleeping by now..

Troop Camp June 2007-Report

Yeah man this is a great camp !!! actually I should say that this is my 'dream ' camp. Yes i dreamed to have such a camp, sleeping in a double decker, have all the gadget in the camp especially able to have to a proper black box and gateway.... never had all these together in one camp since i was in form 1, but back then the black box was just a hole covered with a piece of fly sheet and the gateway was just two bamboo tied to the trees, and for all the previous camps that i have been to was either having only the black box or only the gateway. For this camp we had 2 BLACK BOX !! With platforms!!! haha maybe some of you maybe wondering why is Seck Houng so excited about the black box ? Because people always say that a public toilet reflects a nation, so I think that a Black box can reflect how good is a camp! NExt time we should spend more time to build a 5-star black box with soil flush, tissue paper holder, roof, lights, handers, and maybe even a pocket for mp3 so we can listen to music while doing some big business, hahaha tat time everyone will be lining up to go to the black box, n we shall call it a toilet camp!!! .... i am thinking way too fAR.
(above)The toilet built by the heroic Geoffrey KOk that resisted the smelly aroma and put his life to to build this amazing black box !!!!!( u may refer him as the black box hero........ )

Great activities- one of the most successful activity is Backwoodsman cooking, though Alwin started the fire, KIn Meng prepared the soil n food , I didn't do much in this activity, but this is the 1st time all the food we cooked was edible and none of it was wasted, we did mud fish, mud egg, underground egg, mud chicken, baked potato.... I learnt a lot from this activity.

Pak Zham KAi (mud chicken)

Another activity that i enjoyed was boat building, we made a suppose-to-be-speed-boat raft using bamboo as the material n veins as ropes. WE named it BLACK PEARL, it wasn't the fastest but it was the strongest, the lashing on the boat was still tight till the day we left....which is actually just the next day

Setting up a good komando course wasn't that easy.... we seted up the course but it was just "mah-mah-tei"... I kept on asking the juniors what is the best activity, but none of hem gave a remark on the halangan komando.... :( as if they all forgotten about it, but never mind the next time i will set a super course to torture them n make them remember it for ever HAHHAHA.. so evil.

Can you believe it we actually practised for the malam kebudayaan ??? all the seniors n scouters, kept on singing n singing for such a long period that i think that all the juniors knew wat we were going to per form later..... But when it came to the real performance all of us were just too tired, pressured, stage fright, and didn't performed well. However the main purpose of the performance was to inspire the juniors to make use of the natural racecourses around us such as bamboo to make different types of instruments... i even made a flute out of a bamboo , don't believe me??

Overall this camp has less activities activity compared to the last one, but it is great....

n great people in the camp.... All of us were great. 1st time hiked in the camp site so fast, chopped the 60 bamboos by 2 pm n start sleeping by 12 on the first day!!! Unbelievable!! Until now i am still wondering r we just lucky to have bamboo by the river side or we r so CHUN?? Whatever i am very happy with the first day progress though we did some mistakes.....

Am I friendly during the camp?? I don't think so ..... some of them just looked so sad lonely all alone in the camp, i felt bad that i can help them. But I think i am quite linear during the camp, actually if can i will not wan to down anyone in camp because it is just a waste of time n energy.... Next time IF i still got the chance punishment shouldn't be pumping, but instead " Go make me 5 candle holder and 10 hanger for me !!!" tat way we can put all the energy in to good use, hahaha n this is called energy efficiency !!

Good food... I tasted the best spaghetti in camp !! It was very delicious the sauce was very thick n creamy, Good job Caely !! Just tat the serving was a little bit small.....n tat also explains why the camp fee is only RM 26, excluding transportation ( sponsored by troop )

So after reading this long entry, the conclusion is : the camp rox!!!

BTW we were surposed to go back after lunch, but we went back early n reached school by 1030, n guess who we met?? Or should i say who spotted us ?? Yes Yes Its our Penolong kanan Kurikulum ......so now i have to prepared a complete paper work from A-Z, telling him wat is going on....... Now let me quote the famous dialog from spiderman " With great camp come with a great work load of paperwork"

So now for the moment that is all for the mid-year camp, next up will be 21st WSJ , n maybe i try to have a senior camp for the F4s during the next term holidays?? anyone interested..?

So, now the real conclusion for this entry ..... Anyone willing to help me with my paperwork???
