Roads in Georgetown can be very confusing, for each road has 2-3 names. In BM, English and Hokkien.
For example Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, in English it is called - Pitt street, and in Hokkien- Yeh Ka (椰脚) which literally means "coconut tree leg".
And besides that, not all roads in George Town are called "road" or "jalan" . Roads here are either termed lane, road or street, In BM it will be lorong, jalan and lebuh. So, penang road and penang street will be two totally different place!! Well, it is not too bad using this type of road naming system, which I guess started more than a century ago when Francis Light came to this Island, because at least you will be able to know that it is a lorong/ small road/ long road from its name.
Well maybe I am too use to roads in PJ - SS2/xx
